About HAQI
It is no secret that a great economic comeback requires grand ideas. Recovery from grand-scale destruction requires comprehensive and all-inclusive interventions. The HAQI Foundation serves as a platform for catalyzing the evidence-driven recovery and better rebuilding of Tigray. HAQI, as a word, means truth. The word came first, and we tried to give every letter a word to also make HAQI an acronym. The acronym ended up being Humanity, Agility, Quality, and Integrity.
Established by a team of concerned individuals, HAQI believes in the synergistic effect of ideas coming together to generate the strategies, frameworks, and interventions that will make recovery possible.
All good-meaning individuals are welcome to join HAQI for rehabilitation by sharing their ideas, ambitions, and dreams for Tigray. Good recovery begins with well-vetted ideas that are clear, relevant, and customized. We are inviting others to collaborate with us.

Our Work and Initiatives
We anticipate that HAQI will have countless initiatives and a range of activities , but for the initial stages of HAQI, the following are the key priorities that we are focusing on.
1. Care for caregivers
“To care for those who care for others is one of the highest honors!” —Tia Walker, author
The Care for Caregivers project aims to assess the impact of the
war on healthcare and education professionals, including mental and
physical trauma and service disruptions. This initiative will inform the
development of programs to support their recovery and enhance their
well-being, enabling them to better manage patients, students, and
others affected by the war.
2. Road to Recovery
“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from others.” — Otto von Bismarck
A solid basis for policy discourse and for developing a social and economic recovery framework for Tigray can be developed from other countries with similar settings that passed through the destructive path of war and had a successful economic recovery. This project focuses on identifying strategies and programs used in post-conflict settings as a basis for experiences, lessons, and bench-marking.
3. Segar scholarship advisory and capacity building
“Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime.” —LaoziThe purpose of this activity is to provide advisory services and capacity building that can be used to open career-advancing short-term and long-term scholarship opportunities by mobilizing resources and creating linkages for short-term and long-term trainings to improve human capital, facilitating exposure to the modern world, and positively impact the youth’s lives.
4. HAQI Helpline
HAQI Helpline is a vital mental health service established on June 19th, 2023 under the HAQI Foundation. It provides a confidential and compassionate platform for individuals in need of support and guidance. The toll-free helpline is reachable by dialing #8516. It is dedicated to fostering and promoting mental well-being in the war-affected region of Tigray, Ethiopia.
5. Children of Tigray
“We owe it to our children to give them a dignified and hopeful future.” — Giorgio Napolitano
Imagine a Tigray where every child has the opportunity to thrive, to learn, and to dream. A Tigray where children are safe, healthy, and have access to the resources they need to reach their full potential.
6. Mental Health Training
"War does not only kill; it also destroys the mind. The scars of conflict linger long after the last shot is fired, affecting generations to come." AnonymousAt the HAQI Foundation, we understand that mental health is crucial for recovery and resilience, especially in communities affected by conflict. We offer comprehensive programs, including Psychological First Aid, Trauma-Informed Care, and Psycho-social Support, designed to equip local organizations with the tools they need to make a meaningful impact.
7. My Wish for Tigray
“Tell me what your vision of the future and I will tell you what you are.” — Fred Polak
Imagine a future where the scars of yesterday give way to hope, where global expertise and local resilience unite to rebuild Tigray. This is not just a wish—it is a call to action. We aim to harness the best ideas from across the world, adapting them to our unique context, to address challenges in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
8. Happy Teachers
“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” —Henry Adams
Happy Teachers
is a platform aimed at promoting the well-being of educators who are affected
by the war in Tigray. Our aim is to provide a supportive community to help
teachers cultivate high motivation and happiness in their personal and
professional lives, which will translate into a more harmonious
teaching-learning process. We strive to support and assist teachers to be
HAPPY.
